Description of the challenge

 

How can workers in Latin America and the Caribbean leverage Artificial Intelligence to develop core skills, improve their performance, and close the skills gap in the labor market?

Contextualization of the challenge

In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, technological advancements have accelerated the transformation of the global labor market. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies are redefining the skills required by workers and organizations. According to the Future of Jobs Report 2025 by the World Economic Forum (WEF), it is expected that, in the coming years, more than a third of the current skills of workers will be transformed or become obsolete. This presents a critical challenge: preparing the workforce for change and closing the existing skills gap, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The region faces additional challenges in terms of inequality and limited access to training. Despite the growing interest in emerging technologies, many workers in the region still lack access to the necessary tools to develop the key skills demanded by future labor markets. The Future of Jobs Report 2025 highlights the urgent need to invest in upskilling and reskilling (improving and updating skills), so that workers can successfully adapt to changes in industries like automation, digitalization, and the green economy.

This challenge is framed within the context of digital transformation, where Artificial Intelligence plays a central role by offering customized and scalable solutions for skill development, allowing for a more agile response to labor market changes. The TecPrize 2025 Challenge seeks to explore how workers in the region can leverage AI to develop key skills, improve their performance, and close the skills gap in their respective work environments.

Justification of the challenge

The Future of Jobs Report 2025 emphasizes that the adoption of AI and advanced technologies is driving the demand for digital skills such as programming, data analysis, and cybersecurity, while socio-emotional skills like resilience and teamwork are equally crucial in the evolution of work environments. In this regard, the TecPrize 2025 Challenge aims to leverage AI as a key tool to facilitate the development of key skills not only in the technical field but also around soft skills.

Therefore, this challenge focuses on how workers in the region can take advantage of Artificial Intelligence to develop key skills, improve their work performance, and ultimately close the skills gap in the labor market, aligning with the global trends described in the Future of Jobs Report 2025. The need to prepare the workforce for the digital economy and workforce transformation is urgent, and innovative AI-based solutions could be the key to achieving this.

This challenge aims to highlight, support, and promote innovative solutions that not only help close the skills gaps but also foster equity, inclusion, and sustainable workforce development, especially in a context like Latin America and the Caribbean, where structural inequalities have impacted access to educational and labor opportunities. The proposed solution must be scalable and have the potential for long-term transformation, contributing to the future of work in the region.
